We wanted to write a blog about this since we frequently get the "which brand of implant should I get? or "Which is the Best?" types of questions from our patients :)

Dental implants are one of the most significant advancements in modern dentistry, offering the healthiest and most effective solution for replacing missing teeth. Since their development in the 1980s, implants have become a global phenomenon, with around 600 brands available worldwide. In Türkiye alone, approximately 90 implant brands are in use, some of which are local while others are international.
However, with the commercialization of the implant industry, patients often find themselves confused. When visiting a clinic, they are presented with multiple implant options, yet rarely given a clear explanation of which one is better. Each clinic claims their implants are the best, but this approach only adds to the confusion.
The truth is, the choice of implant brand isn’t as critical as you might think—it’s far more important to focus on the dentist performing the procedure.
Ultimately, all implants are made of titanium alloy screws. The brand matters far less than the skill and expertise of the dentist placing it. For instance, an expensive implant placed by an inexperienced dentist is more likely to fail, whereas a mid-range implant placed by a highly skilled dentist can deliver exceptional results. It’s the dentist’s knowledge, planning, and technique that determine the success of the treatment, not just the implant brand. Still, understanding the different categories of implant brands can help clarify the broader picture. Implant brands generally fall into three categories. The first includes the pioneers of implant technology—brands like Astra, Nobel Biocare, Straumann, Biomet 3i, and MIS. These are considered top-tier because they’ve been on the market for decades, have extensive clinical research backing their success, and are widely trusted by dentists. The second category consists of mid-range brands that, while not as long-established, are still high-quality and widely used, such as Ankylos, Xive, Swiss, Bego, BioHorizons, Camlog, ICX, and Nucleus. These brands are slightly more affordable than the pioneers but still deliver reliable results. The third category includes copycat or budget brands, often modeled after well-known names but produced at a lower cost. While some local brands in this category are good, deceptive marketing tactics, like labeling locally made implants as “German,” can lead to misunderstandings. These implants may also lack the reliability and after-sales support of the first two categories.
When choosing an implant, the simplest advice is to trust your dentist. Most experienced dentists prefer well-known brands because they want predictable results and reliable components for their patients. Established brands also make it easier to resolve potential issues in the future, as their spare parts are widely available. For instance, if your implant needs a replacement screw years later and your original dentist isn’t available, finding compatible parts for a top-tier brand is relatively straightforward. In contrast, an unknown or niche brand may make follow-up care more challenging, as the necessary parts or even the company itself may no longer exist.
Ultimately, the most important factor in implant success is the expertise of the dentist, not the brand. A good dentist will recommend an implant that suits your needs and ensure it’s placed properly, regardless of the brand. While it’s always good to be informed, spending hours comparing implant brands is unnecessary if you’ve chosen a dentist you trust. The focus should always be on the dentist’s skill, the clinic’s standards, and the quality of care you receive. With the right professional, even a mid-range implant can deliver excellent results, while in the wrong hands, even the most expensive implant can fail. In the end, dental implants are the healthiest solution for missing teeth, and once you’ve decided to move forward, the best choice is to follow your dentist’s recommendations. Trust the process and the professional you choose, and you’ll be well on your way to restoring your smile with confidence.
